Dental assistant at this level serves in lead position independently performing complex work with limited supervision in the dental clinic. Advanced knowledge of OSHA standards required, and ability to lead less experienced dental assistants as necessary. Receives and prepares patients for dental treatment and assists the dentist at chairside or in the operating room. Performs other clinical and clerical functions. Maintains good working relationships among team members and management. Duties includes but are not limited to: Assist Dentist at chairside. Leads GS-06 dental assistants in performing all assigned duties to deliver excellent patient care. Assigns co-lateral duties as necessary to allow optimal efficiency, attention to detail and clinic cleanliness. Is the first line contact of the dental assistants in the Dental Clinic. Develops and leads dental assistants with the objective to allow each Dental Assistant to have a fair opportunity for professional advancement. Coordinates daily dental assistant work assignments at the start of the shift and throughout the day as the need arises. Divides workload evenly between dental assistants. Oversees cleanliness and stocking of supplies in the dental operatories. Verifies supplies are rotated correctly to prevent stock from expiring. Checks work in progress to see that the supervisor's instructions have been met. Trains in CPRS, DRM+ and MiPacs Dental Imaging. Trains and orients all new dental assistant employees. Maintains current knowledge and answers questions from assistants on procedures, policies and directives. Obtains needed information on decisions from the supervisor on major issues and problems that arise. Makes written instruction, reference materials and relevant background material available. Coordinates staff in order to assure continuous Dental Assistant coverage for Dentists. Reports to the supervisor on employee performance, progress and training needs to aid Chief in making accurate evaluations. Makes recommendations to Chief as requested concerning promotions, reassignments, recognitions of performance and personal needs. Timekeeper Maintains and updates Material Safety Data Sheet binders for the service. Maintains adequate levels of gowns, scrubs, towels and instruments.
