The Lead Dental Hygienist at the Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System provides direct patient care under the general supervision of the dentist and performs other clinical and clerical functions independently of direct supervision. Employees work closely with, and under the general direction of, a dentist or periodontist. Includes but are not limited to: Monitors work flow and coordinates employee assignments Plans, coordinates, and conducts preventive oral health programs for various patient groups, caregivers and healthcare providers Develops and modifies instructional methods Develops methods for evaluating the effectiveness of the preventive dentistry program Provides input on employee performance Provides instruction to dental auxiliary staff (dental assistants and/or dental hygienists) in achieving diagnostic quality radiographs Provides instructions in maintenance of all dental service equipment Provides primary support to the chief for the daily delivery of department program, reporting, staffing, and scheduling, Coordinates patient care plans to reduce redundancies and delay in patient treatment Develops training materials/presentations Performs advance patient assessments/clinical evaluations (blood glucose levels, medication reconciliation, oral cancer screening, dietary analysis for caries risk, pulse oximeter, comprehensive periodontal charting), prophylaxis in complex restorative cases, advance scaling and root planning with or without soft-tissue curettage, local anesthesia administration, advanced adjunctive treatment Additional duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
