The Supervisory Dental Assistant is responsible for the supervision, administrative management and direction of all lead and staff dental assistants at the Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System. They are delegated full administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing the dental assistant activities for the service at the direction of the Service Chief. Supervisory Dental Assistant duties are listed and are not limited to: Supervise a team of employees performing at the GS-7 level or below. Provide chairside Dental Assistant duties. Provide guidance and technical direction necessary for accomplishing the work of the team, assuring compliance with VA policies. Create daily work assignments to distribute and balance the workload among dental assistants in accordance with established workflow and job specialization. Ensure that each dental assistant is working at full capacity. Coordinate and integrate the work activities and resources of dental assistants from (3) Dental Service clinics (Jack C. Montgomery VAMC, Tulsa VA Dental Clinic, Tulsa THCC). Work in constant conjunction with the lead dental assistant(s), ensuring the work assignments of employees in the unit are carried out. Develop, train and lead dental assistants with the objective to allow each dental assistant to have a fair opportunity for professional advancement. Assess dental assistant competencies and ensure progress toward competencies via feedback, training and ongoing monitoring. Create and provide staff training. Maintains documentation of training. Make recommendations to Chief as requested concerning promotions, reassignments, recognitions of performance and personnel needs. Establish program objectives and performance goals. Assess progress toward their achievement. Oversee the lead dental assistants in job training to new dental assistants in accordance with established procedures and practices. Maintain a current knowledge base and answers questions of other dental assistants on procedures, policies, directives, etc. Analyze organizational and operational problems and develop timely and economical solutions. Create and maintain written instructions and reference materials which are current ensuring compliance with VA policies. Devise ways to accommodate work operations to new and changing programs, which may arise due to changes in procedures, staffing and budget. Interview dental assistant job applicants as a member of the Selection Committee. Maintains open door policy and counsels' assistants in improving clinic moral. Serve as service time approver. Serve as service ADPAC. Serve as service TMS administrator. Other duties as assigned by Service Chief. Work Schedule: Monday - Saturday 07:00am to 07:30 pm (compressed 80 hour bi-weekly work schedule) Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
