The Prosthodontist Dental Officer serves as a practicing dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures. And shall be proficient not only in all aspects of general dentistry, but also including the ability to perform selected specialty services. The Dentist in the role of Prosthodontist must demonstrate the following: Experienced and competent in all phases of Prosthodontics including but not limited to: the fabrication of fixed, complete, and removable dental prostheses; simple and complex dental rehabilitations; treatment of the severely worn dentition; treatment of orofacial Demonstrate outstanding ability in the field of general dentistry or a dental specialty to independently perform the duties related to various professional activities of patient care and treatment. In addition to meeting the basic dental requirements, applicants must demonstrate ability to oversee and maintain accepted standards of professional care in VA facilities, and accept full responsibility for the proper care and treatment of patients. Ability to provide education, training, mentoring and supervision of the Dental Laboratory Technicians; and capable of accepting full responsibility for dental laboratory productivity. The individual must be proficient in assessment, diagnosis, treatment and post-treatment care in all the above areas; trained and competent in providing Basic life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification if conscious sedation is performed; and able to manage medically complex patients and provide appropriate prosthodontic treatment. The individual must be able to work collegially with other dentists and physicians, and should possess the skills, both interpersonal and professional, to work with residents in Prosthodontics, other dental specialties and Advanced General Dentistry.
